Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
