Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities found he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.

This included trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the gathering called by his child.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.
