World Series Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
